Meloniski da Villacidro, Little Town, mixed technique on canvas, 50x80 cm, 2011
Artwork by the contemporary artist Meloniski da Villacidro.
Against a backdrop dominated by a cobalt blue sky, the artist depicts an urban landscape which he places in a dreamlike and fantastic atmosphere. A moon floats above a small town, consisting of several buildings of different shapes and sizes, and is attached by thin wires to illuminated street lamps. The architectural complex rests on large structures in the shape of letters; below, on the curved floor, there are objects that allude to money. Meloniski's works are reflections on human existence: the city, in fact, rests on the economy.
The whole composition is characterised by an idea of lightness and gracefulness, typical of the dreamlike and fantastic scenes depicted by the artist. Always experimenting with various different techniques, Meloniski also combines traditional painting and three-dimensional inserts of different kinds in this work, thus creating a plastic and dynamic alternation of surfaces.
The work is signed in the lower right-hand corner.
