This work represents a Risorgimento soldier on horseback. The scene is typical of Fattori's production in fact, in addition to the Tuscan scenes in the countryside, he, who strongly believed in the ideals of liberation of the period, often represented soldiers at rest or battle scenes in which the artist himself had participated.

The unmistakable style of the artist, belonging to the current of Macchiaioli, through the so-called "Spots", manages to give realism to the work, which take shape thanks to the play of light and shadow typical of this current.
