This work represents some soldiers on horseback trotting towards the inside of the drawing. The scene, typical of the Risorgimento, represents the ideologies of the artist who strongly believed in the liberation intentions of the period, so much so that he personally participated in the battles. In his artistic production, therefore, in addition to the peaceful scenes of the Tuscan countryside, there are often scenes of soldiers and battles.

The unmistakable style of the artist, belonging to the current of Macchiaioli, through the so-called "spots", is able to give realism to the work, which take shape thanks to the play of light and shadow typical of this current.
