Here is represented an episode from the fourth book of the poem, in which Dido lie with Aeneas in the cave and a winged monster spy on them. The artist uses warm colors, which testifies the influence of exotic world on his production. Ocher, red, orange and brown, in contrast with the blue on the background, create a suggestive and dreamlike atmosphere.
