Giovan Francesco Gonzaga, Horses on the run, lithography on metal plate, 30x40 cm

The artist Giovan Francesco Gonzaga, who had left to russian campaign with Cavalleria Savoia, when he was 20 years old, represented his faithful and inseparable horse. Besides being his favorite subject, the horse attests the noble bloodline of the artist, who descends from the Gonzaga family of Mantua. The animal is depicted  as it runs in a serene landscape characterized by bright tones. The technique used is particular, as it is a lithograph made on a metal plate. The work also presents the printed signature of the artist in the lower right corner.
