Artwork by the contemporary artist Meloniski da Villacidro, who is famous for his dreamlike and fantastic landscapes stretching out under a cobalt blue sky

Meloniski's works contain great metaphors related to man and his estrangement from nature. In this work, the artist depicts a number of Venetian buildings, including the Doge's Palace with St Mark's Basilica behind it, almost submerged by water. Two moons, which seem to hang like balloons from the Doge's Palace, support two female figures playing a trumpet and a violin, as if to create a melody that accompanies the tragic rise of the water level over the city.

Extremely precious for the artist, this city is often chosen as context for his dreamlike and fantastic scenes. Always Meloniski tested different and various techniques, he combines also in this work traditional painting and three-dimensional inserts of diverse kind, by creating in this way a plastic and dynamic interchange of surfaces.
