An extraordinary composition by Dalí that reflects his love and devotion towards his wife and eternal muse, Gala. She inspired a number of his works and Dalí signed her name along with his own on certain pieces in the early 1930’s. Gala was responsible for evoking the artist’s most creative instincts. In this work, Dalí has depicted his wife from the back as an explosion of flowers and colours. Flowers are believed to represent the symbol of knowledge and objective beauty. It seems as though Dalí chose to portray Gala as flowers to give her everlasting life in the form of art. For Dalí, Gala demonstrated the perfect support system he needed, he depended on her emotionally, believed her to be the guardian of his mental balance and a healer of his body. She was capable of providing security and stability to an apparently eccentric artist.
