Franco Angeli, Geometries, enamel on canvas, 100x80 cm, 1986

Geometrie is a work made of enamel on canvas by Franco Angeli. His painting tends to be monochrome, based on tonal agreement. Signs, strokes, objects and images are superimposed on the canvas with a chromatic effect that leads to the gradual discovery of each individual element. In this work, too, we have great colour contrasts.

We find a dark grey background, where Angeli arranges the first geometric figure, a rectangle, in a garish green colour in turn outlined by a very fine white line. The rectangle acts as an enclosure for the centre of the painted scene, in which we can observe different subjects: starting from the top downwards we find a moon with a starry background (the stars are given by very small yellow backgrounds), followed by an aeroplane with its wake created by two simple very fine lines that cut the scene cleanly across, at the bottom we find a pyramid, of which only the front side is painted, the colour used is red.

The last geometric figure we find starts at the bottom and goes upwards, its starting point is behind the pyramid, they are two perpendicular straight lines, reminiscent of the shape of a beam of light, perhaps emanating from the pyramid itself and extending to the edge of the green rectangle. The centre of these two lines is completely devoid of stars, just a grey background. The work is signed on the back.
