Pop

Pop culture pervaded art during the last century, influencing the way of approaching colours (the accent is on fluorescent shades), the way to intend art (whit an irreverent and provocative spirit) and, overall, the way of approaching the subjects: no more big personalities about history, mythology or Holy Bible, but protagonists of contemporary scene who belong to Tv world, cinema, music.

The most popular example is the great master Andy Warhol, who, with his multiple portraits of Marilyn Monroe, has become a cult in art and not only. After Warhol, imitations and re-interpretations are arrived to our day, making pop art much more than a simple style, a real point of reference in the contemporary culture.

Today, how contemporary artists deal with the pop?

Tosh, a young Italian artist, focuses him-self to the use of powerful colours (typical of pop art), that mark out each subject taken from vintage advertisings or cartoons. Yux and Pambianchi from pop culture inherit the irreverent tone, focusing on important people of contemporary history and transforming them in satire objects: so Berlusconi becomes Joker of Batman, Kennedy is portrayed smiling, while a cartoon bubble next shows the sarcastic writing “bang”, to suggest his deth, the Pope is painted as an inmate. Cracking Art creates funny plastic's sculptures of meerkats, rabbits and snails. Loris Dogana, with his caustic sarcasm, portrays little scenes inviting us to think: simple black and white drawings entitled “Be different”, “Status quo”, and “Masochism”.

Pop art is a part of our every-day life for sure, and it represents one of the most important current of the contemporary art.
