Expressionist School, Blue Period, Oil on panel, 23x15 cm
Artwork by an anonymous artist of the Expressionist School made with the oil on panel technique. It can be considered a diptych with another work of the same title. In fact, the same subjects appear: a young boy and an older boy. The interesting aspect is that here the characters seem to have had their clothes and facial expressions reversed: while in the other work the adult man was dressed in Harlequin's clothes, here they are worn by the boy; furthermore, while here it is the adult man who has an expression of seriousness and a little capricious, in the other work it was the other way round. What characterises both works is the expressiveness of the faces.
The colours used are subdued; the background echoes the colours of the characters.
