engraving by Russian artist Marc Chagall, naturalized French.

Bold and prestigious colorist, narrator suspended between the real and the fairytale. In the paintings, the favorite themes with a repertoire of images that blends human figures, animals, objects and landscapes, were flanked by motifs related to the biblical and evangelical world.

Numerous works and techniques experimented by the artist throughout his career, which allowed him a prolific production in life but also posthumously. Among these, engraving is certainly one of the techniques most dear to the artist, in fact, thanks to numerous publications and collaborations, the artist managed to acquire important commissions and international awards. Among the most important are those of the Paris Opera and the Metropolitan Museum of New York.

The body of a woman suspended in mid-air is the central subject of this composition, she seems to come directly out of the hand of the figure positioned at the bottom right of the composition, who seems to be an artist in the act of painting with her palette, perhaps a self-representation of Chagall himself within the work.

The result is a dreamlike image, which seems to come directly from the imagination of the Franco-Russian artist.

The work is signed by hand at the bottom right and numbered on the left in a circulation of only 30 copies.
