Lithography of 1971 realized by the surrealist master Joan Mirò. The artwork belongs to the "Ubu aux Balèares" album, composed from 23 numbered and hand signed lithographies. Each artwork was produced in 120 copies. The subject of the suite is the theatral character Ubu borns from an idea of Alfred Jarry. Extremely grotesque figure, who anticipates the trends of surrealism, dada and theater of the absurd. Satyric to the cruelest aesthetic, emblem of the lowest human instincts and fierce symbol of obtuse and arrogant power. Many contemporary artists were inspired by this mask of contemporary theatre, from Enrico Baj to Max Ernst, and Mirò was also fascinated by what he symbolized: a harsh criticism of the authorities of the times, a small elite who were attached to power and interested only in their own personal gain to the detriment of the rest of society. Mirò, as is typical of his style, exalts his childlike representation, which brings to mind the genius of Ubu, born from the scribbles of a very young man.

Work hand signed by the artist and numbered 48/120, published on the catalogue edited by Maeght Editore.
