This artwork is realised by Giovanni Malesci, artist of Macchiaioli's art trend and Giovanni Fattori's sole heir. It's a self-portrait: Malesci draws himself while he's intent to paint the landscape around him, because he has a paint brush in his hand. Behind the artist we can see oxen that are grazing and that underlines Malesci's interest for animal world and, more especially, for the rural one. The colour is stretched to stains, in harmony with Macchiaiolis' style and technique. On the back there are some stamps, like that one concerned to the exhibit organized in 1984 for the centenary of Malesci's birth. The work is signed by the artist in the left bottom. The signature is also accompanied with 1950.
