Considered one of the most influential post-war Italian artists, Emilio Vedova is renowned for his expressive and gestural abstract paintings that seem to respond directly to the tumultuous political climate of his time.

Politically engaged from a young age, in 1942 he joined the association of Milanese anti-Fascist artists known as Corrente and in 1946 signed the manifesto Beyond Guernica, which encouraged artists to use abstraction rather than figuration to reflect the reality of contemporary society.

Vedova remained a restless and inventive artist throughout her career: she designed sets and costumes for the opera, immersive light collages, monotypes and large-scale glass engravings, as well as numerous examples painted sculptures in wood and metal panels.

The work presented is an abstract composition that expresses the artist's poetics through the use of color spread over large fields, the overlap of primary colors together with the skillful contrast and use of white spaces intersected by thick black lines, make the work dynamic in the eyes of the viewer.

The work is signed at the bottom right and numbered at the bottom right in a limited edition, for a circulation of only 99 copies.
