La Valse Hesitation is a graphic work by master Surrealist Magritte, inspired by the literary series "Les Diaboliques" written by Jules Amédée Barbey D'Aurevilly, irreverent and liberal author, who investigates the most hidden desires of the human being, creating a sensation among his countrymen.

From this novel Magritte draws a cycle of works called "The Married Priest" and "La Valse Hesitation", the erotic theme symbolized by apples and masks is evident. Eroticism, understood both in the light of the Marquis de Sade and Sigmund Freud, was of fundamental importance to the Surrealists.

The work bears Magritte's signature on a plate at the bottom left and is countersigned by his wife Georgette. Bottom right is numbered 124/150 and was printed by the publisher Jacques David in Paris.
