Pop Art

Pop art was born during the second half of the last century, and put forward a popular vision of art (this is the reason why it is called “pop”), where doesn't exist anymore an elitist conception and where the protagonists aren’t anymore only ladies and gentlemen of the hight society.

The unique and remarkable pop style is full of bright colours and funny subjects Its most important exponent was Andy Warhol (1928-1987), versatile artist who had standing out in painting, sculpture and photography too. He realized some of the most popular artworks of all time, like Marilyn Monroe's screen printings, or Campell's' ones.

During the great progress in the Fifties, it had been possible to take “untouchable subjects” and modify them, making them more actual and full of humour. So Botticelli's Venus becomes an coloured icon, with a big tattoo on her arm; Arcimboldo becomes gluttonous with the most famous food brands, and queen Elizabeth becomes a punk symbol.

Cracking Art artworks can be considered pop too: they are design objects, dedicated to animal's world, made with a powerful coloration. Pop art is recognized for its freshness: relevant than ever and full of humour, this style is quite unique and different.
