Here De Chirico represents the myth of Oreste, who is transformed into one of his mannequins. The figure of Oreste is one of the most loved in contemporary art, contrary to the heroes of the Homeric epic, Oreste, is an indecisive character, characterized by doubt, a modern hero: it is no longer carried by the will of the gods, in perennial quest for revenge for the death of his father, but in fact never resolute, always prey to doubts and remorse.
