Post-war art

After the second world war, contemporary art changes direction and hires another meaning. The need of rebirth and redemption are the reasons of this change. After horrors of war, the art form lives a period of change as literature, cinema and music.

The most important iconic symbols about this transition are the Masters Enrico Baj and Lucio Fontana. Elements of their artworks are completly reverse from art's rules known until that time. So, canvas became sculptures with a monochrome background where cuts or collage are affixed , that gives life to scary characters as nightmares. This new conception of art doesn't stop to aesthetic form, but became a conceptual manifest, where brain is stimulated before eyes.

So, Fontana's cuts are connected with the universe and Baj's characters are a complaint aganist the monstrosities of society. There is a little space for figurative art too, like the art of Salvatore Fiume, or the abstractism of Piero Dorazio; there is always something about the need of represent what is connected with the society and actuality.
