Naïve art

In the beginning, with the expression “Naif art”, we meant the production of artists without an academic background, in fact in French “naif” means “primitive”, “naive” and indicates an essential and elementary style.

This movement, that involves both sculptur and painting, presents a very big conceptual simplification, compared to the avantgarde art developed almost in the same time, and it prefers drawing real subjects - revisited in childish key - such as if they were characters out of fairytales.During the XX century, the absence of schemes awarded most value to this current, bringing some exponents to expose in Modern Art Museum in Paris (1900) or in manifestation like the Bratislava Festival(1966).

Among the others, we can mention Anna Antola, Francesco Musante, Meloniski da Villacidro. Nowadays, a naif artwork is dedicated to the most common aspects of every-day life, interpreted through a magic and poetic vision.
