Meloniski da Villacidro, Butterflies, mixed media on canvas with small theatre frame, 40x40 cm (55x62 cm small theatre)
The painter and sculptor Meloniski da Villacidro, a lover of nature and the forces that bind man to the cosmos, plays with human and divine symbolism: in this work, the horizon opens up to a warmly coloured sunset, from which infinite coloured butterflies emerge, symbols of poetry, lightness and freedom. A large moon illuminating the deep blue sky forms the background.
The curtain features further butterflies painted by the painter. The frame that accompanies the canvas completes the sense of the composition: it is a colourful little theatre sculpted by Meloniski.
The work, which can either be hung or held upright, is signed in the bottom right-hand corner.
