Unique work representing a war scene. Dated 1896, it certainly refers to the battle of Adua, the culminating and decisive moment of the Abyssinian war that was fought on March 1 near the Ethiopian city of Adua. The battle took place between the Italian forces commanded by Lieutenant General Oreste Baratieri and the Abyssinian army of Negus Menelik II.

The work is signed at lower right.
