Mimmo Rotella

Domenico Rotella, was born in Catanzaro in 1918 and he was a protagonist of Nouveau Réalisme and Pop Art in Italy.

His travel in United States in 1951 was very important for him because he met important artists like Jackson Pollock and Robert Rauschenberg. When he came back in Italy he began to realize artworks with the artistic technique with which he became famous: the décollage. It consist in recompose on canvas pieces of bills ripped from the walls of Rome.

Since 1958 the protagonists of his artworks are film stars, in the series Cinecittà. He wants to inspect contemporary speople and life through mass products and pictures which he upgrades as artistic masterpieces
