Federico Rossano
Federico Rossano was born in Naples in 1835. He attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts even if his father wasn't agree. First canvas are nearby naturalism by Posillipo School; he loved painting seascapes overall Ischia island, with harmonious colours which instill peace and quiet. Giacinto Gigante was very important for him because he was the first one who bought his works. In 1858 he moved to Portici with Marco De Gregori, Adriano Cecioni e Giuseppe De Nittis. They founded Gruppo di Portici (known also as School of Resina) nearby Verismo and Macchiaioli. In 1861 he joined the National Exposition in Florence. When De Gregorio died, Rossano moved with De Nittis to Paris, where he will stay for 20 years. Here he reached a great success, joined many Salon and World's Fairs in 1878 and 1889. He exposed his works also in Vienna in 1873 and in London in 1880. The same year he came back to Portici with his wife where financial difficulties compelled him working as a teacher of landscapes. When he went to Naples he became Master of painting at Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He joined the Venice Arts Festival in 1899, 1905 and 1910. Federico Rossano died in Naples in 1912.
