Giancarlo Prandelli

Giancarlo Prandelli was born in Dello on 13 May 1939. He studied architecture in Venice and graduated in 1968. Prandelli commenced his brilliant career in architecture by being a part of important commissions for important companies like Olivetti and L'espresso. However, his true passion was always art as he was inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci from a young age. Prandelli was amazed by the abilities of Leonardo and believed he had a personality similar to his. He was truly inspired by Leonardo, so much so that he referred to himself as the last disciple of Leonardo. Even though Prandelli is considered a contemporary artist, his style resembles Renaissance art. Prandelli’s work depicts certain writings which are also known as “Codice Prandelli”. These writings illustrate the process of conception of the work in the mind of the artist. This is comparable to a philosophical stream of consciousness. Since Prandelli’s work is inspired by other great artists like Salvador Dali and Leonardo Da Vinci, we can understand the mysteries of their works through Prandelli’s art. To better understand this revolutionary idea, Prandelli wrote a book titled “Il linguaggio occulto della pittura: dall'Antica Grecia a Picasso, il codice noto soltanto agli iniziati” with the journalist Alessandro Calderoni. Prandelli’s knowledge of philosophy and theory enables him to produce extraordinary art. Hence, he can not be considered a simple artist.
