Enrico Pambianchi, Ipercefalo, mixed technique on wood, 30x40 cm, 2011

Enrico Pambianchi uses the portrait of the infanta Margherita (a detail of the famous painting by Diego Velazquez, Las Meninas) to create a new reality through his particular technique, made of collage, drawing and colors. The first born of Filippo IV is represented here in the middle, surrounded by her dames no more, but by some pop figures from a new present, typical characters of Pambianchi's works. So we find Captain America lower left, and Frankestein ("our friend Frankie", as Pambianchi calls him) behind the girl, in place of the self-portrait of Velazquez. The work is signed lower right.
