Enrico Pambianchi, In the mind of Velasquez, mixed technique on wood, 60x118,5 cm, 2015

Enrico Pambianchi uses a detail of the famous painting by Velazquez, Las Meninas, to create a new reality through his particular technique, made of collage, drawing and color. The figure is a grotesque rethink of Doña Isabel de Velasco, the dwarf lady of the court of the eldest daughter of Philip IV. In the work appear strident writtens that suggest what Velaquez saw but could not paint. Not only the original mastiff, but also a face of an aggressive baboon, surround the frightening character, transformed into a pop figure of a new present. The work is signed in the lower right.
