Giuseppe Migneco

Giuseppe Migneco (Messina 1908 – Milano 1997) is one of the most representative artists of the group Corrente, with Aligi Sassu, Renato Birolli, Bruno Cassinari, Renato Guttuso.

He went to Milan when he was 23. At the beginning he was an illustrator and after he dedicated his life to painting. He supportes European Avantgardes and he was strongly influenced by German Expressionism. He was always in contrast with the fascist dictatorship because his paintings were educational and characterized by a social and political meaning. 

After the Secon World War he was influenced by Mexican mural paintings: this period is called "social realism". He inspected about contemporary life with a critical, historical and objective look. The protagonists of his artworks have got chiseled faces marked by the time, fatigues, work and the pains of the war. Colours are bright and touches are clean.

From '50s his name is well known and his paintings have been all over the world (Paris, Boston, New York, AMsterdam, Zurich...).
