A unique work by the Macchiaioli artist Giovanni Malesci, universal heir of the master Giovanni Fattori. It is in oil on cardboard and dates from 1918.
Malesci here paints a battlefield with trenches that have been evacuated. This can be deduced from the human absence and the marks on the ground from shell explosions.
The artist remains faithful to a style oriented towards the art of the Macchiaioli, preferring colour to outline, with details that are not detailed but nevertheless immediately recognisable.
