Mark & Paul Kostabi

Mark Kostabi was born in California in 1960 from Estonian immigrants. He studied drawing and painting at California State University.

In the 80's his artistic career took off with his move to New York; he became an important figure in the East Village art movement. In the same years he provocatively used the mass media with various very critical comments on the theme of contemporary art and its market. At the same time, his fame grew and he was requested by the most important galleries in Japan, the United States, Australia and Germany.

In the 90's he founded the "Kostabi World": a gigantic studio. A structure that produces about 1000 paintings a year, of which only a small part bears the signature of the Master. In his works is constant the presence of faceless figures, which evoke the mannequins of De Chirico. Figures without time and identity, which give a good idea of the contemporary mans alienated, overwhelmed by the context and society in which we live and by which we are deeply frightened, so as to keep within ourself all emotions and fears.

In recent years he has dedicated himself to collaborations with major brands such as Swatch and the Giro d'Italia. He has also designed covers for Guns 'N' Roses (Use Your Illusion), The Ramones (Adios Amigos) and Jimmey Scott (Holding Back The Years). His permanent public works include a mural in the Palazzo dei Priori in Arezzo, Italy, a large bronze sculpture in the central square of San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, and a bronze portrait of Pope John Paul II in Velletri, Italy.

In addition to figurative art, Kostabi has a strong passion for music that he shares with his brother Mark, is one of the founding members of the band Youth Gone Mad, White Zombie and Psychotica; Kostabi, currently, performs with Tony Esposito in the group New Modernism.

He has many collaborations with magazines and television channels that have consecrated him as one of the most influential living contemporary artists of our time.

Paul Kostabi is an American painter, musician and record producer, brother of Mark Kostabi.

Founder of several bands such as Youth Gone Mad (1981), White Zombie (1984) and Psychotica.

In addition to his career as a musician, he has been equally successful as an artist and painter.
