Hsiao Chin

Born in Shanghai on January 30, 1935, Chin Hsiao is an important Chinese artist, as well as one of the greatest famous painters in the history of contemporary art.

Raised in a family particularly predisposed towards the fine arts, as his father ,u mei Hsiao, was a musicologist of a certain culture, as well as founder of the National Conservatory of Music in Shanghai, from a young age Chin Hsiao proved extremely talented in drawing and painting, showing, moreover, a strong passion for these disciplines. During the European period, Chin experimented with various forms of abstraction, which combine a substantially two-dimensional painting composed of wide backgrounds, which create rhythmic effects capable of visually evoking long and sinuous waves. The artist arrived in Milan in 1959, then the center of the artistic avant-garde, where he met Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni and the others, their innovative ideas but despite this contact with Western culture he did not forget the Taoist teachings.

Hsiao's entire artistic career has been in fact a continuous spiritual research, starting from his training, which took place in Taipei where thanks to his master he learned the importance of the balance between heart, brain, hands and eyes and how to combine colors with each other.
