Andy Warhol, Cherubs, Print, 25x 31cm (with frame)
Reproduction of an illustration made by the American artist Andy Warhol in the 1950s.
His passion for drawing is born in his childhood years. In 1950s, Warhol started producing several illustrations for books and magazines. In particular, the 1950s were the years of "5 Cats Name Sam and One Blue Pussy", "Wild Raspberries", "In The Bottom Of My Garden": books hand-coloured by the artist himself.
This illustration dates from his New York years and is part of a series of drawings of fairies and cherubs, sometimes with written sentences reproducing his mother's handwriting. It shows two cherubs. The artist uses colour in an anti-naturalistic way, colouring only the essential.
His style is inspired by 19th-century illustrations, such as Gradville's "Les fleurs animées".
