Unique artwork by a French School artist who signs himself Joanes. It depicts a portrait of a middle-aged man probably drinking in a bar. He is holding a full glass in his hand and his expression with slightly red cheeks suggests that he is drinking.
The style used is Impressionist-inspired: the artist favours colour over outline and drawing; the figures are rendered with essential brushstrokes. Particular attention is paid to the rendering of light and shade.
This oil on panel is signed in the top left-hand corner by the artist.
