La Grande Place des Vosges, du Temps de Louis XIII, a heliogravure composed by the surrealist master Salvador Dalí. In this etching, Dalí has portrayed one of the finest and oldest squares in Paris. It is part of the Marais district built by Henry IV of France, who also constructed the first royal square in Paris. He designed the buildings in a manner that all four sides were identical. This is one of the first examples of rational urban planning in France. Dalí made calligraphic animated stick figures with the help of darting incisions on copper plates. The work is signed on the lower right corner and is numbered 148/150 on the lower left margin. La Grande Place des Vosges is published on page 136 of the “Catalog Raisonnè of Etchings and Mixed-Media Prints”, 1924-1980.
